Broadcast Media Masterclasses with BBC Presenter Ian Peacock

After the success of our first two broadcast media masterclasses in March, the Network is delighted to announce that we will be holding three further workshops taking place in Manchester, Nottingham and London.

This full day masterclass is delivered by BBC Academy Lead Trainer and Presenter Ian Peacock and equips participants with the specific skills to feel more confident in and get the most out of radio and TV appearances.

Ian Peacock presents documentaries on BBC Radio 4 and has a Sony Gold Award ('Radio Oscar') for his reporting. A Lead Trainer at the BBC Academy, Ian has also presented and produced for national TV networks. He has worked with most BBC stations, on the air or as a trainer, including Radios 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5, The World Service, 1 Xtra and BBC Asian Network. He is a great operator who gives people real media confidence without being intimidating.

Comments from participants on the first two workshops included:

“Media training is not something that you think about every day, when you have so many other important things to do and deadlines to meet. But with the growing transformations in the way we communicate and the likely possibility that senior managers might be in front of the camera or doing radio, or even Internet interviews, I thought that the broadcast media masterclass run by the NBP gave me a tremendous awareness of my strengths and weaknesses, while providing us with some great tips and techniques that will certainly come in handy sooner rather than later. Highly recommended!” - Graciano Soares, Centre Manager, JISC RSC London

“I found the NBP’s Broadcast Media Masterclass extremely helpful. The skills developed at the session have given me the confidence to put myself forward for media interviews, where in the past I may have shied away from such requests. Knowing the basics of how to deal with a request for interview through to being trained to use techniques during such an interview has been invaluable. Feedback provided on my performance on the day was excellent, highlighting positives in voice and style, and identifying clear areas to improve on for the future. I cannot recommend this Masterclass highly enough, for colleagues who may find themselves with a requests for interviews from the media.” - Paul Eeles, Chief Executive, EMFEC

The masterclass will help attendees learn how to:

  • make the best of both live and recorded broadcast media appearances;
  • perform well in both news and non-news interviews;
  • communicate proactively and productively with radio and TV teams before broadcasts;
  • prepare for interviews;
  • feel comfortable and confident in radio and TV studios and settings;
  • set the agenda and handle difficult questions;
  • use verbal, vocal and body-language techniques to optimise their performance.

Many of the insights and skills gained in this session will be transferable to presentations, public-speaking engagements, meetings and so on.

The price to attend is £200 for NBP members and £300 for non-members and places are limited to 8 per group. Dates for the next three workshops are to be confirmed but please register your interest now by emailing bobby@nbp.org.uk and stating whether you would like to attend in Manchester, Nottingham or London.
