Does Your Ethnicity Affect Your Success?

The second in our series of events launching our new partnership with Teach First will take place in Birmingham on Thursday 9th February, bringing together current teachers and young people interested in pursuing a teaching career.

This free event will feature a panel of diverse, high-profile speakers discussing their views on the topic 'Does Your Ethnicity Affect Your Success?' The programme aims to highlight the strong need to have diverse leaders in all fields in order to tackle educational disadvantage and social inequality.

This is a fantastic opportunity for university students and young people who are interested in teaching to meet people within the sector and find out more about entering the profession. Professionals who currently work in schools are invited to attend and share their experience with young people and provide mentoring and work shadowing opportunities where possible. Refreshments and time for networking will be provided.

Attendees will be encouraged to consider:

  • What do we mean by success? How is success measured?
  • Why do we need diversity in politics, business, and education? What are the benefits?
  • What is the power of a positive role model?
  • Why is it important to have diverse teachers in the classroom? What impact might they have on their students?
  • How can we break the ‘glass ceiling’?

To book a place to attend or for further information please email Hong Nguyen at hnguyen@teachfirst.org.uk and copy in Henry Brefo henryb@nbp.org.uk stating your name, university or profession and any dietary requirements.

The first in this series of events was held in London on 21st November and you can view photos from the evening here. A final event in the series will take place in Nottingham on 13th March.
