| As part of our Tackling Racial Inequalities programme, we delivered a host of fully subsidised career and personal development programmes in June to almost 400 participants across the country.
The programmes were extremely well received with over 99% of people rating the programmes excellent or good; feedback reflected that participants found the programmes engaging, informative and interactive and received a wealth of information.
We delivered Career Development Workshops to 54 students and graduates, giving practical advice on recruitment and selection processes, producing a successful CV and writing effective supporting statements. In addition, 100 students are now receiving year long extended employability support helping them to learn more about how to successfully enter the job market and achieve their ideal career.
Career Development Workshops were also provided for 39 professionals from across a range of sectors, giving participants the opportunity to reflect on and take stock of their careers to date and become more proactive in managing their future work choices.
A total of 84 people came along to our networking evenings where professionals, students and graduates were able to interact with each other and make new contacts. Intercultural working skills workshops were attended by 54 people, 9 people were trained as mentors, 18 benefited from receiving work shadowing opportunities and 30 from personalised 1 on 1 career coaching sessions.
Below are just some of the fantastic comments received by participants:
‘The workshop provided by the NBP has been extremely useful to me as an individual, future graduate and as a member of a society at university. The workshop was a real eye opener to dealing with the world of work and applying for jobs as an ethnic minority and as a person in general. I would recommend every individual to attend regardless of background as it gives you the right steps into the future!’

‘I think that what the NBP offer is very beneficial for students of ethnic minority backgrounds and much needed. It has definitely provided me with more knowledge on the process from CV to interview to securing a job. Plus, it's given me the increased confidence as a soon-to-be graduate to apply for jobs and maintain self-motivation in cases where I'm less successful.’
Pamela Masha - attended Student & Graduate Career Development Workshop & Networking
‘The event has enabled me to understand what the application process really entails, and how to effectively match my CV and cover letters specifically to each application and stand out from other applicants. Overall, the event has been extremely valuable for me as it has given me a new insight in my approach in applying for work.’
Joseph Amoah - attended Student & Graduate Career Development Workshop & Networking
‘Thank you for the practical information, advice, strategies and the emotional support that you and the NBP have given me. You have enabled me to successfully fill an application form, get short listed, and have sufficient confidence to attend and perform well at an interview.’
Joyce Conway – recipient of 1:1 Career Coaching
‘I found out a lot of things regarding job hunting that I previously didn't know about. The speakers were confident and welcoming to all of us. I would definitely attend one of these events again and would encourage all students to at least attend one.’
Shamaiza Haider – attended Student & Graduate Career Development Workshop & Networking
‘The workshop was informative, wonderfully delivered and fun. At end of the workshop, I felt as though I have been given insider information into the mind of recruiters. Practical advice as to how to fill application forms to maximally showcase my skills, how to prepare for interviews and more importantly the confidence to believe that I am as good as everyone else I may be up against. The workshop was also realistic, it left me in no doubt that, to be the best, and to be what employers are looking for, I need to put a lot of hard work and thought into my application and subsequent interview. In a nutshell, the workshop does not only tell you what to do but how to do achieve and take your life to the next level.’
Josephine Montford – attended Student & Graduate Career Development Workshop & Networking
‘I was so keen on meeting someone who could help me in exploring my ‘inner self’, and I was in no way disappointed as I met a career adviser whom I talked with in a one – one explorative session. Bobby’s lecture on networking was fantastic and concise. I did almost as it was said by Bobby and Grace on the networking and behold, it awesomely worked right, I ended up meeting someone very instrumental in my project.’
