Gerry Davis, a member of the Network's Board, has been awarded an OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours this year in recognition of his voluntary service to Further Education.
In addition to his position on NBP’s Board, Gerry has been Chair of the Corporation of the College of North West London since 2000 and is one of only a small number of Black Chairs of Governors in the country.
Originally born in St Vincent in the Caribbean, Gerry came to Britain as a child and has built up 40 years of experience in the education sector, beginning as a comprehensive school teacher in 1971. His work over the years has included managing a Multicultural Curriculum Support Group and working with Brent Council to develop multicultural education in order to eradicate the institutional racism in schools and colleges.
Since retiring from paid employment in 2006, Gerry has dedicated much of his time to voluntary work including sitting on a number of boards and committees. Last year Gerry was a recipient of the NBP award for Outstanding Contribution to Race Equality and the Network are delighted to congratulate him on this latest well deserved honour.
Gerry commented, “I am particularly pleased to have been awarded the OBE for my voluntary work at the College, AoC (London) and NBP. Involvement with these organisastions is a matter of passion and love for me and the satisfaction and fulfilment I derive are ample rewards. And now in addition, I have the award of an OBE. I am truly privileged.”
