An evaluation study of the BLI® Schools Inspection Shadowing Programme has shown a considerable impact upon the career progression of participants with all participants stating that they would recommend the programme to colleagues.
This positive action programme for Black Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) teaching professionals working in schools has been funded by the National College since 2008 and delivered by the Black Leadership Initiative® in partnership with Ofsted. The aim of the programme is to enable more BAME staff to develop the necessary skills and knowledge to achieve promotion within the sector and to consider applying to become school inspectors.
The evaluation study was based on a survey of 60 participants from the programme over the three years, participant tracking data and the perspective of school leaders who have supported participants on the programme.
Figures show that 70% of the first cohort in 2008 have now been promoted and 56% of the 2009 cohort. Seven individuals are now Head teachers and a further nine are Deputy Head teachers. Nine out of ten of those who have been promoted said that the programme had contributed or significantly contributed to their progression.
Head teachers commented positively about the impact of the programme on individuals (95%) and on their schools (81%) and all Head teachers said that they would recommend the scheme to other suitable colleagues.
The Executive Summary from the evaluation is now available to download and view from our website and the full report will be available soon.
