The Network’s Education Partnerships in Africa (EPA) project ‘Leaders Who Make a Difference’ has been selected as one of three FE based projects to be showcased at a British Council dissemination event in Accra, Ghana in January.
The EPA programme, funded by the UK Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) and managed by the British Council, links English FE and HE institutions with counterparts in sub-Saharan Africa with the aim of developing employability skills for local economies and building sustainable capacity. There are currently 72 partnerships supported under the EPA programme linking 16 African FE institutions and 69 HE Institutions with those in the UK.
The Network is working with 8 UK colleges and the Matthew Goniwe School of Leadership in Johannesburg to develop and improve leadership skills in South African colleges through a programme of mentoring, shadowing and professional development activities and to develop international competencies in UK and South African college leaders as part of a mutual learning experience. We have been invited by the British Council to run a workshop at the dissemination event to share our story of how the project was set up, the difficulties and barriers overcome, the impact and achievements of the project and the lessons learnt.
Rajinder Mann, Executive Director of the Black Leadership Initiative said: “We are delighted to be asked to showcase our South African partnership work as an exemplar project at the British Council dissemination event. This invitation reflects the success of our programme, building on the Network’s award-winning Black Leadership Initiative model, in developing leaders of South African colleges and improving the international and cultural competency skills of college leaders in the UK.”
