NBP Supports DEC’s Urgent Call for Donations to Haiti Earthquake Appeal

The NBP urges all of its members to make a donation to the Disasters Emergency Committee's (DEC) appeal to help survivors of the earthquake that hit Haiti on 12th January.

The devastating 7.0 magnitude earthquake has affected millions of people living in the densely populated capital Port-Au-Prince and surrounding areas. Haiti is the poorest country in the Western hemisphere, greatly increasing the risk that people will suffer or die in the aftermath of a natural disaster.

DEC Chief Executive Brendan Gormley said, "Our message to the public is: thank you for your efforts so far but it is vitally important that people continue to donate to increase the amount of aid that can be delivered to help the millions of people affected by this terrible earthquake."

Donations made through DEC will be divided amongst their 13 member charities including Oxfam, British Red Cross, Islamic Relief and Save the Children and go directly to help the rescue and relief effort in Haiti.

Ways to Donate to the DEC Haiti Earthquake Appeal

Many DEC member agencies are already helping on the ground while others are preparing to do so. You can read about the work currently being carried out here.
