The Network has won a tender to deliver HR support services for the Lifelong Learning UK (LLUK) Pass on Your Skills programme.
As part of the programme, colleges and other learning providers seeking to recruit lecturers and assessors can access a Talent Pool of almost 2000 candidates with substantial vocational experience who want to embark on teaching careers and pass on their skills and knowledge to the workforce of the future.
At no cost to providers, the scheme which arose from the review of FE by Sir Andrew Foster in 2005, offers resources and support to help ensure a world class workforce of talented employees with the right skills. It is one of a suite of dynamic initiatives developed by LLUK as part of their Catalyst programme to help learning providers attract and inspire the best calibre of staff.
LLUK have run national recruitment campaigns to attract professionals in subject shortage areas such as construction, engineering, health, science, maths and skills for life. Providers can advertise vacancies for free to these and other potential candidates, reaching a large number of vocational professionals to fill vacancies in these shortage areas.
Candidates in the Talent Pool are assessed by the Network’s HR consultants who have extensive experience in senior HR management in colleges and then available vacancies are matched to suitably qualified and experienced candidates. Providers then manage the recruitment and selection of candidates in the normal way.
Thanks to their substantial practical experience, vocational recruits can provide learners with a wide perspective on what to expect when they start work and incorporate the insights they've gained during their professional lives into lessons and curriculum planning.
To aid candidates in the transition from industry into teaching, the Network, in partnership with Protocol National is currently running support workshops which focus on completing application forms, enhancing interview skills and preparing micro teach sessions, as well as providing one-to-one application support and interview coaching.
Since the beginning of the contract in September the Network has already successfully assisted three candidates into work with many others currently in the application process.
Geoff Hulston, a successful Pass on Your Skills candidate commented, "Thank you for your interest and to your helpful team for helping me to get employment. I have found a placement at Hopwood College of Further Education as a trainee assessor for mechanical and electrical installation. They have put me on an A1 trainers course and allocated two apprentices for my assessment. Thanks again and keep up the good work, from a now employed 56 year old."
230 providers are already signed up for the programme. If your college isn’t registered visit www.catalystprogramme.org or for further information contact us on 01902 715 309 or email passonyourskillssupport@lluk.org
