Career Development Programme

The career development programme is delivered by the NBP in partnership with the Centre for Excellence in Leadership.

Career Development Workshops: Overview

To supplement the BLI’s secondment, shadowing and mentoring programmes, BME staff can access highly-focused and practical career development workshops.

These seek to develop the skills and confidence of participants to achieve progression in their career.

Recent workshops have focussed on helping individuals develop a range of skills including CV writing, interview, performing in assessment centres, etc.

Programme Coverage

Now is a time of change and movement, and challenges and opportunities. Many BME staff are looking to enhance their career prospects and update their skills. The workshops are for you if you are looking for a new job, reapplying for your existing job, being re-deployed, moving up, or simply if you want to take ownership of your career.

Approach

  • You apply directly to the BLI, identifying which workshops you would like to attend.
  • The workshops are delivered by a professional team with extensive practice in staff development within the learning & skills sector, including input from highly experienced BME HR professionals.

Outcomes

  • Clearer ideas about your own career direction.
  • More confidence in applying for jobs.
  • Effective presentation and interview skills.
  • Becoming better informed about career options within your organisation and elsewhere.

Participant Profile

Workshops are open to participants from all LSC-funded providers. Applicants are BME staff who are interested in developing their careers.

Duration

All workshops are delivered as one-day open workshops.

Fee

There is no charge for this programme. In addition, we have a certain amount of additional funding for participants to partially cover travel and accommodation costs (contribution to be agreed with the BLI).

Testimonials:

"These career development programmes helped me address issues of self-confidence. It also made me realise that I was as good as my peers, that I was an effective manager and that I could become Principal one day."
